A New Year brings new hopes, new anticipations, new expectations. Is it rare to expect less out of a new year, or have lesser hopes for a new year? It does not seem so this year as the financially informed would know that the world economy is about to brake sharply this year with the US, Europe and Japan in recession. Evidence of a grim new year is still mounting: severe laying off of workers, banks failing, plant forced shut downs, hiring freeze, government taking efforts to boost consumer confidence and spending….
Still, this is no reason to expect the worst this year. As the old Sunday school song goes “This is the day that the Lord has made”, this year is nothing less than another gracious gift from God. I want to embrace it with open arms and thanksgiving. Such a gift of grace must not be squandered with foolish and meaningless living, I pray for wisdom to live and bear much fruit this New Year.
I resolve to play my roles well in this New Year:
1. I want to be a loving and faithful wife
2. I want to be a filial daughter and daughter-in-law.
3. I want to be an understanding sister.
4. I want to be a good friend.
5. I want to be a responsible and productive worker.
6. I want to be a willing (and happy?) servant of the Lord.
7. I want to be a mother. :)
Should my strength fail, I pray the Lord will sustain me with his unfailing love and strength. I’m not sure what I will achieve by the end of this New Year, but I hope for the best!
