A Baby

I have two very interesting people as my cube mates: an expecting mother, and another that just came back from confinement. I get the opportunity to listen to their experiences first hand, feel their tummies, their excitement and joy. I can’t help exclaiming how wondering it is to have a new baby! You should see how their faces glow, literally!

After our wedding day, it is not uncommon to be asked ‘When is your baby coming?’ Truthfully, I can only reply ‘I don’t know’ at this point. Not that we haven’t given it much thought, we think about it a lot! We both look forward to have our own children. The home is a bit too quiet with just the two of us, so somehow we got Ernie to liven up the place a bit.

I often feel overwhelmed when I think about the cost needed to deliver a child, and to invest for his future education. As we were recently married, we have monetary commitments and home renovations that demand our immediate attention. It is so hard to allocate for a baby’s fund now. Another concern is that we have not figured out how to look over our child when both of us are working. Do we need a maid in addition to our parents’ help? My cube mate says caring for a baby leaves little time for yourself and your hubby, or anything else… We enjoy our coupledom for now, but are we willing to sacrifice it for our children? Furthermore, life is not without its own challenges. With work and church and everything else vying for our limited time, are we able to make time for a baby. Priorities got to be changed…

While we really love to have one, I’m not sure we have the peace of mind to go for it yet. Oh well, committing this matter into God’s hands….
