In Search of the Hitz.fm Fugitive

Damn! So near yet to far... RM5000 was almost in our grasp, but it slipped away :'(

The Fugitive's Notes:
"people, i was there right under your nose; left my calling cards everywhere... Carnival Mall was my home for a few hours...

Had my dinner @ BBQ Chicken... that was quite yummy... then did some shopping @ Popular. I actually blew a whistle, but no one seem to realise; a few people did turn towards me, but no one came to ask the all important question.

Then saw a moving promo of the movie "Geng"; quite a crowd there, so i decided to save myself and move towards the carpark....

i waited and waited, but no one came my way, no one ask the question...

Guess i'll sleep quite soundly today; knowing that no one caught me all day...

Nitey nite...

Fugitive out...."

As soon as Ethan had info that The Fugutive was in Popular bookshop, Sunway Carnival, we rushed out at 9.40pm to arrive at a closing mall. We ran about asking every possible candidate "Are You The Hitz.fm Fugitive". Crazy answers we got include:
1) "No!" before we even asked the question. Ethan quipped in, "But sir, we haven't asked you the question: Are You The Hitz.fm Fugitive?" "Still, No. :)"
2) "Yes..... But I'm sorry, I'm actually looking for him too. ;) Btw the way where are you from? I'm from BM! bla bla bla bla..."
3) "(In Chinese) I'm sorry, I can't understand what you're trying to say"
4) "(In Malay) Go here... "

So, we ran about this in stupid frenzy for about 20 mins. We passed by BBQ Chicken restaurant at the third floor, at that time, restaurant smelled like it caught fire. The thought that Hitz.fm Fugitive ate there actually crossed my mind, but I'm sure he was way gone by the time we were there. We passed by the cinema, went to the toilets beside the carpark. What a pity it did not occur to us to search at the carpark.
The mall finally closed at around 10.15pm. There were still die hards running about with their radios. Security guards were looking at us, I bet they must be thinking we're up to something not good. The only shop open was Starbucks, so we went pass it, and there wasn't anyone that looked anything close to The Fugitive. We met a Malay, cutting a forlorn figure by the bench outside the mall. Thinking that he might be the one, we asked him. He gave the response in #4 above.

Feeling a bit discouraged, we return home and kept listening to the radio. At about 11.30pm, we heard a lady claim that she saw The Fugitive at the carpark. While she was unloading her goods, The Fugitive was standing there all the time, not having anything to do but to wait and stand there. What's more bizarre, this lady claimed that The Fugitive is a Woman!

Oh well, enough for the craziness for now. I just enjoyed doing something out of the ordinary for once in many many many months?

Who's The Fugitive?!!!

A Baby

I have two very interesting people as my cube mates: an expecting mother, and another that just came back from confinement. I get the opportunity to listen to their experiences first hand, feel their tummies, their excitement and joy. I can’t help exclaiming how wondering it is to have a new baby! You should see how their faces glow, literally!

After our wedding day, it is not uncommon to be asked ‘When is your baby coming?’ Truthfully, I can only reply ‘I don’t know’ at this point. Not that we haven’t given it much thought, we think about it a lot! We both look forward to have our own children. The home is a bit too quiet with just the two of us, so somehow we got Ernie to liven up the place a bit.

I often feel overwhelmed when I think about the cost needed to deliver a child, and to invest for his future education. As we were recently married, we have monetary commitments and home renovations that demand our immediate attention. It is so hard to allocate for a baby’s fund now. Another concern is that we have not figured out how to look over our child when both of us are working. Do we need a maid in addition to our parents’ help? My cube mate says caring for a baby leaves little time for yourself and your hubby, or anything else… We enjoy our coupledom for now, but are we willing to sacrifice it for our children? Furthermore, life is not without its own challenges. With work and church and everything else vying for our limited time, are we able to make time for a baby. Priorities got to be changed…

While we really love to have one, I’m not sure we have the peace of mind to go for it yet. Oh well, committing this matter into God’s hands….

Rude Malaysians

I had a rather unpleasant encounter during lunch hour yesterday.
My colleagues and I were walking to a restaurant for lunch, and as usual I didn’t walk too quickly so as to not leave my pregnant colleague trailing too far behind. So when we reached the end of the escalator, a middle aged lady pushed me off with her two bare hands! I was aghast with such a rude gesture. This middle aged couple was not standing behind me for too long in fact, I so happened to enter the escalator before her, so she was standing behind me all through the ride. Well, even if you’re in such a rush, there’s really no need for pushing. Why release your stress on me? Such a pushing is an invitation for a fight, but then I wouldn’t want to fight an elderly lady who supposedly has more patience and good sense. Where has Miss Manners gone to? Wouldn’t a simple 3 word phrase “Please excuse me?” make the world less hostile place?
Anyway, that rude couple finally rushed off to a food court. Not that they walked extra fast. We in our moderate pace, were not trailing too far behind from them anyway. How true.. a hungry (wo)man is an angry (wo)man.

Musings on My New Year’s Day…

A New Year brings new hopes, new anticipations, new expectations. Is it rare to expect less out of a new year, or have lesser hopes for a new year? It does not seem so this year as the financially informed would know that the world economy is about to brake sharply this year with the US, Europe and Japan in recession. Evidence of a grim new year is still mounting: severe laying off of workers, banks failing, plant forced shut downs, hiring freeze, government taking efforts to boost consumer confidence and spending….
Still, this is no reason to expect the worst this year. As the old Sunday school song goes “This is the day that the Lord has made”, this year is nothing less than another gracious gift from God. I want to embrace it with open arms and thanksgiving. Such a gift of grace must not be squandered with foolish and meaningless living, I pray for wisdom to live and bear much fruit this New Year.
I resolve to play my roles well in this New Year:
1. I want to be a loving and faithful wife
2. I want to be a filial daughter and daughter-in-law.
3. I want to be an understanding sister.
4. I want to be a good friend.
5. I want to be a responsible and productive worker.
6. I want to be a willing (and happy?) servant of the Lord.
7. I want to be a mother.
:)
Should my strength fail, I pray the Lord will sustain me with his unfailing love and strength. I’m not sure what I will achieve by the end of this New Year, but I hope for the best!
